Mayor Frank Fry said he does not foresee any problems in relation to Y2K but added that the city is “on full alert.� The police department will be in “excess of double staff,� said Lt. James Waller. Other than a few block parties, there are no events planned in the city, and police have very few major concerns, said Waller.

An optimistic thumbs-up was given to the city in regard to its computer readiness by Howard Skeen, a city traffic commissioner and retired aerospace scientist. “I get a warm, fuzzy feeling that Westminster has worked out the [Y2K] problem and done it quite well,� he said. “I’m confident that everything is going to be compliant.�
