As if being the hottest spot in the nation Thursday wasn’t enough, there was also record heat in Simi Valley on Saturday.
The mercury reached 85 degrees, breaking the old record of 82 set in 1979, according to the National Weather Service. On Thursday, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks were the hottest spots in the country at 84 degrees.
“Any time of year you can get these temperatures but it’s unusual that it was a record high,” said Joe Sirard, a U.S. meteorologist in Oxnard.
Other cities in the county didn’t break records but were still warm. It was 84 in Ojai, 82 in Thousand Oaks, 73 in Ventura, 72 in Oxnard and 69 in Point Mugu.
Temperatures are expected to cool slightly today with clear skies forecast throughout the county and the mercury in the mid-70s. For the county’s mountains, temperatures are forecast to be slightly cooler, reaching into the 60s.
A wind advisory for mountain passes and canyons that began Saturday afternoon will be in effect until 2 p.m. today. Sirard said the advisory warns of north and northeast winds between 30 and 45 mph and gusts up to 60 mph.
