SAN FERNANDO — A security guard and his alleged accomplice have pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering a Newhall market supervisor during a robbery in October, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Vincente Godoy, 27, and Carmelo Corado, 40, are accused of fatally shooting store supervisor Luis Valdez, 32, and injuring assistant manager Teresa Cano during the Oct. 30 holdup of Tresierras market. About $4,200 was taken, police said.
According to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Godoy had been working as a security guard at the market at the time of the robbery.
Each man has been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of murder with special circumstances, making them eligible for a possible death penalty.
Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 25. The men entered the pleas Tuesday during a hearing at San Fernando Municipal Court.
