A man who escaped from the California Youth Authority in May was recaptured this week in Los Angeles, authorities announced Friday.
Mauricio Gonzales walked away from a prison vehicle at the facility’s Sylvester Carraway Ventura Public Service and Fire Center on May 24, authorities said.
He was being held in the youth prison on a robbery charge, officials said.
Los Angeles police officers, with the assistance of the youth authority’s Gang Information Apprehension Unit, spotted Gonzales on Thursday and placed him under surveillance for most of the day.
After confirming his identity, authorities arrested Gonzales about 4:30 p.m. without incident.
Gonzales is being held at the Ventura County Jail where he faces a felony escape charge, authorities said.
