Stance on Prop. 187

* Your story, “Reaction Subdued on Prop. 187,” (July 30) included the editorial judgment that I “have muted (my) earlier stance.” This assessment could not be further from the truth.
Since I entered Congress 13 years ago I have been, and I remain, a strong opponent of providing welfare and other social benefits, except emergency health care, to anyone in this country illegally.
