You Be the Judge

Judge Judy is to jurisprudence as Pee-wee Herman is to great acting (“Yes She’s a Hit (Get Over It!),” by David Gritten, Aug. 1). She has created a marketable cartoon character that makes a mockery of the legal system.
Yelling at people, interrupting them as they testify, telling them to shut up, calling people liars and arriving at simplistic solutions based on nothing but her personal feelings does not good law make. It does, however, make for good schlock TV, which is precisely where it belongs.

Can we have some front-page articles in Calendar on some soul who can turn entertainment into entertainment? Not Judge Judy and her giving the media what they want. She is a sellout.
How about talent? Real talent, a la finding another Matthew Bourne, who turned “Swan Lake” into hit theater, another up-and-coming Ella, another director of films like Hitchcock, another actress like Bacall--remember when a writer like Edna Ferber reigned?
Enough of the garbage--entertain us with writing, acting, directing and real talent. Then we will be sane again.
