Lowry Records 17 Strikeouts to Help Ventura Beat Cuesta
Right-hander Noah Lowry struck out 17 in eight innings to help Ventura College defeat Cuesta, 6-5, in a Western State Conference Northern Division baseball game Thursday at Cuesta.
Lowry (3-2), who allowed five hits, was one strikeout shy of the school record of 18 set by Gary Anglin in 1971.
Matt Cresto and Mario Robledo each had two hits for Ventura (21-16, 11-10 in conference play).

Moorpark 1, Oxnard 0--Zach Gordon had two hits, including a double, and drove in the game’s only run in the first inning for host Moorpark (24-17) in a WSC Northern Division game.
Bakersfield 7, Pierce 6--Brian Menkin had two hits for host Pierce (21-15, 10-11) in a WSC Southern Division game.
Biola 10, The Master’s 8--Rob Avila hit a three-run home run and Aaron Penberthy had two hits for host Master’s (34-12-1) in a nonconference game.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Canyons 5, Pierce 2--Kim Wrinkle had a two-run triple and Valarie Reyes had a two-run double for host Canyons (28-11-1, 14-3) in a WSC Southern Division game.
Nicole Giampaolo tripled, doubled and scored two runs for Canyons.
Moorpark 5, Hancock 2--Delaina Talili’s two-run single in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie in a WSC Northern Division game at Hancock.
Jaclyn Aranda (20-6) pitched a five-hitter with four strikeouts and had two run-scoring singles for Moorpark (29-9, 14-3).
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
Southern Section Freelance tournament--Justin Ohye shot a five-under-par 30 on the back nine and had six birdies overall at Rio Hondo Country Club in Downey to help Calabasas qualify for the Southern Section Eastern Regional tournament May 10 at Mesquite Country Club in Palm Springs.
Ohye’s round of two-under-par 69 qualified him for the Southern Section Northern Regional Individual Championship May 17 at La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Burbank 11, Hart 7--The No. 2 doubles team of Drew Simmons and Romik Yeghazary defeated Hart’s No. 1 team of Andrew Davidson and Todd Castagna, 6-3, to help host Burbank (14-3, 8-0) clinch their 12th consecutive Foothill League title.
It was the first loss of the season for Davidson and Castagna (23-1).
Tigran Martirosyan (24-0) of Burbank beat Jesse Ferlianto (22-2) for the second time this season. Hart fell to 14-2, 6-2.
Campbell Hall 12, Whitney 6--Adam Zunder won three sets to improve to 42-3 this season for Campbell Hall (11-5, 4-2) in a Delphic League match at Valley College.
Newbury Park 12, Ventura 6--Brian McGee, Alan Wong and Danny McGee each swept their singles matches for host Newbury Park in a nonleague match.
Calabasas 14, Santa Paula 4--Alex Menichini didn’t lose a point and the host Coyotes (10-8, 5-0) clinched the Frontier League title.
