DANA POINT

Biologists with the Orange County Marine Institute have discovered an unusual phenomenon off the coast of Dana Point: Small planktonic animals called euphausids, likened to swarms of killer bees, have been spotted at night off the Institute’s R/V Sea Explorer. The Institute is offering a hands-on cruise Friday and Saturday, from 7:30 to 10 p.m.; cost is $20 for adults, $14 for seniors and children. Institute officials suggest calling ahead because bad weather will affect the cruise schedule. Information: (949) 496-2274.
