A shootout on Monday between sheriff’s deputies and three men after an attempted traffic stop left one suspect dead, two others in custody and a deputy slightly wounded, authorities said.
Gunfire erupted when deputies tried to stop a car at about 11:15 a.m. near 73rd Street and Hooper Avenue, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Sgt. Vincent Callier. The men kicked out the car’s back window and began shooting at deputies with two weapons, including an AK-47 assault weapon, he said.
Deputies returned fire and chased the car along Hooper Avenue until it crashed at 76th Street, Callier said. As a third deputy arrived, the two sides exchanged more gunfire.
All three suspects were arrested and taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead, Callier said. The suspects’ names were not immediately released.
