Penalty Kick by Alcarez Spurs CLU, 3-1

Luis Alcarez scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give Cal Lutheran the lead for good in a 3-1 victory over Claremont-Mudd in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer game Saturday at Cal Lutheran.
Matt Romeo scored one minute later to seal the victory for the Kingsmen (11-5, 6-1), who earned top seeding for the conference tournament next week.
Trevor Mutch gave Claremont-Mudd (11-5, 3-1) a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute with a penalty kick.
The Master’s 3, Westminster College (Utah) 0--Anthon Brueggeman had a foot in all three goals for the Mustangs (10-5-3), scoring twice in the first half and assisting on Paul Dojo’s second-half goal in a nonconference game at The Master’s.
Sean Parsons had seven saves for Master’s, and Mike Packer had six saves for Westminster.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
CS Northridge 1, Idaho State 0--Rebecca Kiesz scored off a Michelle French pass with 1:01 remaining for the Matadors (6-12, 3-3) in a Big Sky Conference game at Idaho State.
The Bengals (2-12-1, 1-5) were outshot, 14-10.
Cal Lutheran 3, Claremont-Mudd 1--Leilani Green had two goals for Cal Lutheran (12-4, 10-0), which won its 46th consecutive SCIAC game.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
CS Northridge def. Portland State, 15-2, 15-7, 15-5--Opposite hitter Laura Szymanski had 22 kills for the Matadors (9-8, 5-5) in a Big Sky Conference match at Northridge.
Nancy Ma, a senior outside hitter, added 19 kills and Crystal Newquist, a senior middle blocker, had eight kills.
Hannah Long had 14 kills and Christy Orona had 10 for Portland State (5-17, 1-8).
Cal Lutheran def. Occidental, 15-1, 15-4, 15-2--Outside hitter Lauren McCartin, a former Saugus High standout, and Kristin Scott each had 10 kills for Cal Lutheran (15-1, 10-0), which clinched the SCIAC championship.
Christian Heritage d. The Master’s, 15-8, 15-5, 15-5--Kim Gibson had five kills and three blocks for the Mustangs (14-11) in a nonconference loss at Master’s.
Heather McGovran had seven kills, six aces, eight digs and four blocks for Christian Heritage, and Sarah Cisneros contributed six kills and four blocks.
Kati Lehr had seven digs and Stacey Hudson had four blocks for Master’s.
