La Quinta, the surprise team in the county, can come close to clinching its first playoff berth in eight years with a victory tonight. If the Aztecs can get to 3-0 in league, they probably would need to win only one of their three remaining league games. Pacifica was the preseason favorite to win the Garden Grove League, but the Mariners have struggled against decent competition. They were defeated by Woodbridge, 27-7, in Week 1 and by La Mirada, 45-21, last week. La Quinta’s most impressive victory came over Santiago, and that came two weeks ago in the game’s closing minutes.
