Help Sought in Naming School
The Capistrano Unified School District is seeking the public’s help in naming its planned high school in Chiquita Canyon, which is scheduled to open in fall 2001.
School names, according to district policy, may include but are not limited to:
* Historical figures;
* Recently deceased local personalities who made significant contributions to the district;
* Living or deceased school employees;
* Geographical locations within the school district, including cities or communities.
Even “Chiquita Canyon High School” is a possibility, but officials have said the inevitable banana references may cause trustees, who have the final say, to balk at the name.
Trustees approved final construction plans for the district’s fifth high school in August.
The deadline for name suggestions is Nov. 18.
Suggestion forms are available at district headquarters, 32972 Calle Perfecto, San Juan Capistrano.
