Campus Will Offer Free HIV Testing
Free and anonymous HIV testing will be offered this week at the Pierce College Health Center. The testing is provided biannually to students and community members, in conjunction with the school’s HIV Awareness Day.
A new oral test using cells scraped from the inside of the mouth replaces the blood test. Patients will receive the results in person at the health center within a week. If needed, counseling will be provided.
Government funding pays for the tests and counseling, which are administered by the Northeast Valley Health Corp., according to Beth Benne, director of the health center. About 250 people were tested during the spring.
Tests will be offered from 2 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Appointments are required and are anonymous.
