A 4-year-old boy walking his bicycle across a Pacoima street Sunday was struck and killed by an unidentified motorist who barreled through an intersection and kept driving after striking the child, authorities said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was walking with an older brother, believed to be 10 years old or younger, said Sgt. Paul Modrell of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

A witness to the incident, which took place about 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Remick Avenue, took down the license plate of the fleeing car and gave it to authorities, Modrell said.

The child, suffering from head trauma, was transported to Providence Holy Cross Hospital, where he later died, Modrell said.

His older brother was not injured.

In an unrelated incident, a motorcyclist died in North Hollywood after ignoring a stop sign at Cahuenga Boulevard and Whitnall Highway and colliding with a car shortly after 6 p.m., Modrell said.

Modrell said he does not anticipate filing charges against the driver of the car.

“Motorcyclists are always going to lose in a wreck,” Modrell said. “Something was wrong for this guy to be crossing a major street like that, right into traffic.”
