Charter Reform to Be Debated at Meeting
In what could be a very lively debate, charter reform commission members along with business and civic leaders will square off at a Tuesday meeting of the Studio City Residents Assn.
“We’re going to start taking a more active role as an organization in the charter reform issue,” said Tony Lucente, president of the residents association. “We want our members to have the information needed to adopt positions on these issues.”
Scheduled to participate in the forum are Joseph Mandel, appointed charter commission member; Eric Schockman, elected charter commission member; Carol Schatz, from the Central City Assn., a business organization opposing elected neighborhood councils; and David Fleming, a Studio City resident and Valley civic leader.
The panel will discuss topics including the powers of the mayor, school board reform and the worthiness of independent neighborhood councils with decision-making power.
Also scheduled to be at the residents meeting is California Court of Appeals Associate Justice Walter Croskey, who will speak on the process of confirming appellate court judges in the November elections. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at CBS Studio Center, 4024 Radford Ave.
