Party-Goer’s Death
Re “Deputy Used Force but Didn’t Kill Man, Sheriff’s Report Says,” Oct. 3.
I would like to take exception to the depiction of my son, Nicholas Dowey, as a “rowdy party-goer.” There is sworn testimony that Nicholas was at that party for about 20 minutes before he was attacked. After that attack, he decided to leave and was attacked again, which resulted in a 911 call and the subsequent arrival of sheriff’s deputies.
Nick’s blood alcohol level was determined to be .01 and he was completely clean of all illegal drugs. His behavior could hardly be construed as rowdy because an overwhelming amount of sworn testimony shows that his struggles were entirely defensive. Far from being rowdy, Nicholas was a thoughtful and generous person. His generosity resulted in the gift of life to four people because, in life, he chose to be an organ donor.
