Man With Knife Slain by Police

Los Angeles police shot and killed a man who reportedly refused to relinquish a knife Saturday during a hunt by officers for a possible bank robber.
The shooting occurred shortly after noon and began when passersby flagged down patrol officers near Washington Mutual Savings on Manchester Avenue and told them about “suspicious activity,” police said.
Officers sent for backup and began clearing the area around the bank when they confronted a man with a knife and shot him.
The man died at the scene. His identity was not released Saturday.
A subsequent search of the bank turned up nothing amiss, police said. Investigations into both incidents were continuing.
