UCLA/GEFFEN PAIRING
In her Sept. 27 Theater Notes column, Jan Breslauer stated that there was no ongoing collaborative relationship between a working professional theater and an academic theater program.
Unfortunately, she failed to take note of the quite extraordinary affiliation that exists between the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood and the theater program of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
Under the leadership of Gilbert Cates, who serves as the Geffen’s producing director and who is also on the faculty and the former dean of our school, there have been numerous master classes, internships, symposiums and lectures where the students at UCLA have an a unique opportunity to interact with stellar theater artists such as Terrence McNally, Sir Alan Ayckbourn, Seth Barrish, Karen Jones Meadows and Sam Shepard.
We are very proud of this relationship and look forward to its continued evolution in imaginative new ways.

Dean, School of Theater, Film and Television, UCLA
