Voters to Decide Fate of Utility Tax Proposal
- Share via
Voters will decide next year whether a 4% utility tax should replace a citywide assessment due to expire in 2001.
The City Council agreed Monday to put the tax, which would be added to electricity, gas, and telephone bills, to a city vote March 2, 1999. If approved, it would take effect in July 2000.
Councilman Thomas Harvey said the council, after hearing from the public, agreed not to apply the tax to cable television bills.
