In other Valley Pac-8 openers:
Grant 17, Monroe 13--Tevita Manu scored the winning touchdown on a six-yard run with 23 seconds remaining at Monroe.
Manu rushed for 39 yards in five carries during the final 52-yard drive. He also scored on an 88-yard return of the opening kickoff.
Diego Barba threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to running back Andy Newchurch on fourth and 12 with 4:29 to play to give Monroe (2-2) a 13-10 lead.
Grant defensive lineman Eloy Navarro recovered his third fumble of the game on the Monroe 48 with 2:06 to play, setting up the winning drive for Grant (2-2).
On the game’s final play, Monroe backup quarterback DeAndre Phillips threw a desperation pass that was intercepted by Robert Mitchell.
Grant’s Duriel Carter, the region’s leading City Section rusher entering the game, was held to 14 yards in 11 carries.
