Moorpark Makes Mark on Marmonte

Art Garcia ran Moorpark High into the record book, rushing for 235 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries and making two touchdown receptions in a 35-21 victory over Simi Valley on Friday night at Simi Valley.
Moorpark, playing in its first Marmonte League game after moving from the Frontier League, set a Ventura County record with its 17th victory in a row.
Simi Valley (1-3) took a 14-0 first-quarter lead on a 12-yard run by John Proja and a 15-yard reception by Ken Davis.
Garcia answered back in the second quarter with a 69-yard scoring run, but Simi Valley extended its lead to 21-7 on a 32-yard pass from Tim Bird to Davis.
With 21 seconds left in the first half, Garcia caught a 21-yard scoring pass from Mark Gressman.
The second half was all Moorpark (4-0). Garcia caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Gressman in the third quarter and ran 55 yards for a touchdown with 10 minutes to play to put the Musketeers ahead, 28-21.
