Moore’s Conviction Upheld on Appeal

A federal appeals court Wednesday upheld the extortion convictions of former Compton City Councilwoman Patricia Moore, who accepted nearly $50,000 in bribes while in office.
The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 that prosecutors were entitled to tell the jury about Moore’s confessions, made in interviews and grand jury testimony as part of a guilty plea that she later withdrew. The court also said undercover government activity in the case did not amount to “outrageous conduct.”
Moore, now serving a sentence of two years and nine months in federal prison, was a councilwoman from 1989 to 1993.
