Orange County has the state’s third largest number of high-tech employees, according to a recent survey by the American Electronics Assn.

Reviewing federal census data from 1990 through 1996, the trade group found that Orange County had nearly 80,764 people working in the high-tech manufacturing, communications services and software and computer-related service fields.

As of 1996, the leading city was San Jose with 221,331 employees. Los Angeles ranked second with 147,455 high-tech workers.
