BURBANK — A car driven by a local television news figure struck and injured two octogenarian women in a crosswalk Wednesday morning, police reported.
Dr. Bruce Hensel, medical editor for KNBC-TV, was identified as the driver but was not cited, according to Burbank Police Lt. Larry Koch. It was unclear whether Hensel had a green light, Koch said.
An 88-year-old woman suffered a severe head fracture and was taken to County/USC Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. The other woman, 81, suffered a fractured left ankle and foot and was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.
The accident occurred at 9:40 a.m. at the Ventura Freeway’s Pass Avenue offramp. Because of the accident location, Burbank police will turn over the case to the California Highway Patrol for further investigation, Koch said.
