An 85-year-old Port Hueneme man died Monday after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle while crossing Ventura Road in Oxnard, authorities said.
John R. Mendoza was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, said Jim Wingate, senior deputy coroner with the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Mendoza had apparently just gotten off a bus when he attempted to cross 100 feet north of the crosswalk at Ventura Road and Channel Islands Boulevard and was struck by the northbound vehicle, authorities said.
The driver, Kenneth Paddock, 40, of Oxnard, was not cited.
