GOP’s Image
* “GOP Sees Chance to Alter ‘Mean White-Guy’ Image” (Nov. 11) is not really news.
Republicans can change their party’s image by ceasing opposition to every measure that protects the quality of American life, by being more concerned about living children than embryos, by working to assure decent health care for all, by discontinuing their union busting, by ending their opposition to campaign reform, tobacco regulation and gun control, and by stopping their efforts to control our private lives. It will also help if they give up on providing “tax reform,” which benefits most those who need it least.
In short, if they don’t want to be perceived as SOBs, they ought to stop acting like SOBs.

Apparently you think that racially offensive slurs are acceptable when applied to white, male Republicans. Well, as a white, male Republican, I find it insulting. Not only is the image false, I think The Times is crass and hypocritical for using such a term.
