Titans’ Effort Falls Short
Megan Sabo had 12 kills and Allison Anderson had 37 assists for Cal State Fullerton, but the Titans lost, 15-7, 16-14, 15-5, to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Big West Conference women’s volleyball Friday night.
Cal Poly (17-9, 7-8) rallied from a 14-9 deficit in the second game to keep the momentum. The Titans are 9-17, 3-12.
In another match:
UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 0--Brooke Witt had 11 kills for UC Irvine (9-21, 4-11). Roberta Gehlke had 15 for UC Santa Barbara, which won, 15-8, 15-11, 15-7.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Cal Poly Pomona 81, Concordia 57--Taryn Commins scored 14 points and Jaime Gast added 13 to lead Concordia (0-1). Ruby Maciel had 12 points to lead Cal Poly Pomona (1-0).
Cal State Dominguez Hills 66, Southern California College 41--Kelly Boeke had a game-high 18 points, but SCC (1-1) lost after scoring only 10 points in the first half.
In women’s tennis:
Boyd advances--Jacqui Boyd of USC defeated Kerry Giardino of Arizona State, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals to advance in the ITA Women’s Tennis Regional at UC Irvine.
Boyd, seeded eighth, plays fourth-seeded Ditta Huber of USC, who won her quarterfinal sets against Dorota Wozniak of San Diego State, 6-4, 6-3.
Today’s semifinals will be all UCLA and USC. Bruins’ Cristina Popescu, seeded third, and Amanda Basica, seeded fifth, will play one semifinal. Trojans’ Boyd and Huber play the other. The semifinals start at 9 a.m.
