Man Suspected in Fatal L.A. Shooting May Be in County

A man wanted by Los Angeles police on suspicion of killing a witness to a series of commercial burglaries is being sought in Ventura County, authorities said Friday.

Randall Bruce Williams, 34, is suspected of fatally shooting Jaime Edward Navaroli, 36, and seriously injuring Navaroli’s girlfriend, LAPD Lt. George Rock said.

The attack occurred Nov. 4 outside the couple’s West Hills home in the San Fernando Valley.

Navaroli had left a witness protection program he was placed in after receiving death threats for his expected testimony, police said.

The woman remained in critical condition Friday.

To elude police, Williams may have fled to Ventura County, where he lived for nearly 20 years before moving to the San Fernando Valley, Rock said. A couple who raised Williams live in Port Hueneme, and he has friends in Ventura.

“He has history in both Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley and has had contact with law enforcement in both areas,” Rock said.

Williams, a former auto shop employee who worked in Canoga Park, is a close friend of Kenneth Leighton, the man charged in the burglaries, police said. Williams is a suspect in the burglaries but has not been charged, authorities said.

In 1996, Williams served four months in Ventura County Jail after violating his probation in an earlier burglary case. A warrant was issued for his arrest in May 1997 when he failed to appear in court on another probation violation.

Williams is white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds and has blond hair and blue eyes. He may have dyed his hair black and is clean-shaven. He has a 7-inch scar on his right forearm and police consider him armed and dangerous.

He was seen leaving the shooting scene in a red sports car, Rock said.
