The old Post Office on Pine Street has a new use as a bookstore, at least for the next few years. City Council members unanimously approved a short-term lease of the building this week to Pam and John Donaldson, who have run an online book business for several years.
Newly elected Councilman Arthur DeBolt, who will join the council next month, objected to the lease of the building. DeBolt said the city would not receive any income from the lease for months because the Donaldsons will be credited with $35,000 in improvements they plan to make.
But Community Development Director David Lepo said the city only approved the lease because a bookstore was one of the “ideal uses” cited by a study of how to spur development in that area.
