Harvard-Westlake Falls Short
GARDENA — Unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities in the first half, Harvard-Westlake High scored twice on consecutive offensive plays in the third quarter but lost to Serra, 20-15, in a San Fernando League game Friday night at Serra.
Matt Felder connected with Alex Clark on an eight-yard scoring pass with 8:08 to play in the third quarter to tie the score, 7-7.
Serra’s Sean Weston returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards to move the Cavaliers ahead, 14-7.
Harvard-Westlake (7-2, 1-1 in league) answered with an 85-yard pass from Felder to Alex Holmes. Clark caught a two-point conversion pass from Andrew Becket on a fake kick to give the Wolverines a 15-14 lead.
Serra (5-4, 1-1) jumped ahead on field goals of 43 and 23 yards by Alberto Duenas in the fourth quarter.
Harvard-Westlake drove 64 yards to the Serra nine with seven seconds to play. Felder scrambled out of the pocket and was stopped inches from the goal line as time expired.
Felder completed 14 of 24 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. George Witter carried 15 times for 48 yards.
Holmes had four receptions for 121 yards and one touchdown, and 27 yards in four carries.
Dashaun McCullough had 66 yards in 12 carries and one touchdown for Serra, and teammate Amir Rahman had 79 yards in 16 carries.
Harvard-Westlake had 330 yards and Serra finished with 199 yards.
