Montgomery, Tubbs Apply to Transfer

Devin Montgomery, a junior guard from San Fernando High who earned All-City Section and All-Valley basketball honors last season, has applied to transfer to Alemany under open enrollment.
Another San Fernando player, Jason Tubbs, also has applied to Alemany. Their applications come two weeks after San Fernando assistant Darryl McDonald was hired as Alemany basketball coach. McDonald has coached Montgomery for several years in club ball. Montgomery transferred to San Fernando last year from Ribet Academy to play for McDonald.
San Fernando Coach Mick Cady is expected to decide next week whether he will return as coach.
SOCCER
Kristy Walker, a former All-American at Westmont College and an assistant at Cal State Bakersfield the past two seasons, has been hired as an assistant with the Pepperdine women’s team, Coach Tim Ward said.
BASEBALL
Pepperdine first baseman Steve Zorn was a second-team All-West Region choice. Zorn led the Waves with a .397 batting average, .609 slugging percentage and 52 runs batted in.
TRACK AND FIELD
Crystal Brownlee of South Carolina won the Southeastern Conference championship in the shot put with an SEC-record throw of 55 feet 11 1/4 inches at the conference outdoor championships last weekend in Gainesville, Fla.
Brownlee, a Westlake High graduate, has won five SEC titles in the shot put.
FOOTBALL
Bo Espinoza, an All-Ventura County pick from Rio Mesa High, will attend Hawaii. Espinoza (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) played guard and linebacker at Rio Mesa, but will play strong safety at Hawaii.
