A car skidded off the Garden Grove Freeway on Friday, killing a landscaper who was working in front of a Garden Grove Toyota dealership, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 26-year-old driver told authorities he lost control of his 1992 Infiniti about 11:30 a.m. after hitting his brakes to try to shake a tailgater, CHP spokesman Mark Reeves said.
The Infiniti burst through a chain-link fence near the Brookhurst Street exit before striking the 49-year-old worker, who died instantly, Reeves said. The car overturned and came to a stop in front of the Trask Street car dealership.
The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of his family. The motorist was treated for minor injuries at Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center and was not cited. The crash remains under investigation.
