Venezuelan Diplomat to Speak at University

Pedro Luis Echeverria, the Venezuelan ambassador to the United States, will visit UC Irvine next week on his first Southern California tour.
The ambassador will have lunch with faculty, community and business leaders Thursday before giving a public address titled “The Turnaround of the Venezuelan Economy: the Opening of the Oil Sector and the Upcoming Elections.”
An economist by training, Echeverria became ambassador to the United States in 1994. He previously served in several other directorships for his country, including those in charge of economic integration and foreign trade. He also served as ambassador to Jamaica and Bolivia.
The address begins at 2 p.m. in the social sciences lab, Room 270.
