4.4 Quake Rattles Town in San Benito

A moderate earthquake measuring magnitude 4.4 struck along the San Andreas fault Thursday, two miles south of the San Benito County town of San Juan Bautista in Central California, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The 1:31 p.m. temblor caused no major damage or injuries, although some windows buckled in San Juan Bautista, about 80 miles south of San Francisco. The quake was centered at a depth of 5.2 miles.
The area has had frequent quakes in the past. Residents said the latest jolt was felt as a rolling motion that was accompanied by a booming sound.
