A 14-year-old boy was killed and a 20-year-old man was injured in a shooting on the campus of Washington Middle School, authorities said Thursday.
Salvador Gabriel Diaz of Pomona was struck Wednesday evening by a single bullet in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. He is the third homicide victim in the city this year.
Cesar Escamilla of Pasadena was shot in the back. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was in serious condition, Lt. Keith Jones said.
The two victims, who officials say are associated with a local gang, were standing just north of East Howard Street between Marengo and Raymond avenues, when the shooting occurred about 6:15 p.m.
Although detectives were investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, Jones said the motive for the attack was not immediately known.
