Re “Group Sues U.S. Over Curbs on Free Shots,” May 13:
The California Medical Assn. is suing the federal government over its refusal to allow the state Healthy Families Program to participate in the federal Vaccines for Children Program. Whether or not federal policy is changed, all children enrolled in Healthy Families will receive free immunizations.
All health plans were told to include the cost of immunizations in the rate they charge to the state. Health plans will notify parents when their children should have their free preventive care visits (which include immunizations), and the program will collect data on how well health plans are immunizing Healthy Families’ subscribers.
