4 Stowaways Who Jumped From Freighter Return to Romania

Four stowaways who jumped overboard from a freighter voluntarily returned home to Romania on Monday.
The four men had wanted to work in the United States, but they could not legally do so, said Bill Strassberger, spokesman for the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
They did not seek political asylum.
The men jumped into Long Beach Harbor from the freighter George on Thursday morning.
The owners of the Bahamas-registered ship paid for the stowaways’ return, Strassberger said.
They were discovered on the ship a few months ago and were hired on as crew, the Coast Guard said.
