Two Orange County schools each placed third at the National Science Olympiad, an academic competition that took place Saturday in Michigan.
A 15-member team from Fullerton’s Troy High School competed against science students from 53 other schools. It won third place in the high school division, while teams from Ohio and Colorado placed first and second.
Students from Anaheim’s El Rancho Middle School earned third place in the middle school division.
This is the fourth time in five years that the Troy team has advanced to the nationals. Troy won first place in 1996 but was edged out last year by a team from Michigan.
On Saturday, students from Troy won 11 individual medals during the competition at Grand Valley State University. The team, which includes four seniors, seven juniors and four sophomores, will come home Monday.
