Dana Hills and Corona del Mar, the top two boys’ tennis teams in Orange County, have not met this year.
However, it appears they will meet in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division I playoffs.
Top-ranked Dana Hills (19-0) and second-ranked Corona del Mar (17-1) were seeded second and third in the Southern Section pairings released Tuesday.
Corona del Mar, seeking its first section boys’ tennis title since 1983, barely missed out on being seeded No. 1. The Sea Kings lost on games to top-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula last week. Corona del Mar opens Tuesday against Palmdale Highland (7-7-1) or Victor Valley (15-5). Dana Hills will face Pico Rivera El Rancho (7-6) or Rowland Heights Rowland (8-9) in the first round.
Two-time defending champion Woodbridge (12-5), which gave Corona del Mar a scare last week, is seeded fourth and could meet Peninsula in the semifinals. Two years ago, Woodbridge won its first title, defeating Peninsula in the finals, 10-8.
Fourth-ranked Los Alamitos (15-2), which lost to Woodbridge this season, could get a rematch with the Warriors in the quarterfinals.
Fifth-ranked Sunny Hills (15-3), which has won four of the last eight Division II titles, is seeded third in the Division II pairings, just behind Beverly Hills and Westlake Village Westlake. Seventh-ranked Mission Viejo (16-3) is seeded fourth. In Division III, Santa Margarita (12-8), unranked in the county polls, is seeded second behind North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake.
The wild-card round begins Friday.
