Producing Money in the Valley
The San Fernando Valley reaps more than $6 billion a year from film, TV and commercial production, according to a new study by the Motion Picture Assn. of America. In every part of the Valley, salaries are paid, items purchased and services bought, said the MPAA, which used the calendar year 1996 for its survey. Some areas enjoyed more benefits than others, of course, and it’s no surprise that Burbank--home to Warner Bros., Disney and numerous smaller production houses--and Universal City were in the lead. For example, more than $740 million poured into the ZIP Code that includes MCA-Universal. This map shows, by ZIP Code, how much production money landed in the Valley during the study year.
