Prince Returns With Escorts From U.N.

Ousted co-premier Prince Norodom Ranariddh returned to Phnom Penh almost nine months after he was toppled from power while out of the country. Ranariddh arrived on the scheduled flight from Bangkok, Thailand, accompanied by U.N. officials and senior diplomats. He returned under a peace plan aimed at ensuring his participation in July national elections. Under the deal, he was pardoned by his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, after being sentenced in absentia to 30 years in prison for alleged security crimes. Ranariddh was overthrown by his coalition partner, Second Prime Minister Hun Sen last July.
