Her play made a mediocre team good. Without her, the Eagles wouldn’t have won their second consecutive Division II title. Regan, who is headed to Wake Forest, made two diving saves in the title-game tie.

KIM ABBAMONTO
Defender
Capistrano Valley, Sr.
Leader of the county’s best defensive team. Great field vision allowed her to set up her teammates while scoring 13 goals herself. She took Eagles to the South Coast League title and into Division I title game.

MEGAN ABBAMONTO
Defender
Capistrano Valley, So.
A key component in a Cougar defense that gave up only three goals in league play and 10 overall. A first-team All-Southern Section selection and Kim’s younger sister, she also scored five goals.

ALLYSON MARQUAND
Defender
University, Jr.
Her dominating play at sweeper helped Trojans reach second round of playoffs. Marquand’s speed and fitness allowed her to get to any ball that got through midfield. Named Pacific Coast League’s MVP.

LAUREN ORLANDOS
Defender
El Toro, Jr.
Named Sea View League MVP, she scored 13 goals for the Chargers. A member of the Olympic Development Program, Orlandos was a second-team all-county selection as a sophomore.

AURELIN WEIDNER
Defender
Capistrano Valley, Sr.
One of only two seniors on the Capistrano Valley team and a key to its playoff success. A good distributor of the ball, Weidner held off offensive attacks while setting up teammates for counterattacks.

MICHELLE BANNISTER
Midfielder
Canyon, Sr.
Out last season with an injury, she was named Century League MVP this year. The Comanches’ dominant force, she had 18 goals and 22 assists to lead Canyon to the second round of the playoffs.

JEN MESCHER
Midfielder
Mission Viejo, Sr.
Her team’s leading scorer with 16 goals and 14 assists, she was a first-team All-Southern Section selection. Signed to play soccer at San Jose State, Mescher’s ball control kept her team in every game.

YVONNE PIERSON
Midfielder
Edison, Sr.
The Sunset League MVP, she controlled the ball and helped the Chargers to the league title and the playoff quarterfinals. She dominated the midfield and her great speed helped her reach balls quicker.

KIM STEMPKOWSKI
Midfielder
Edison, Sr.
One of many scoring threats for the Chargers, she was named the Sunset League’s offensive player of the year. Aggressive, with exceptional skills and speed, she had 11 goals and five assists.

KATE DESMOND
Forward
Mission Viejo, Sr.
She led the Diablos to their second Southern Section title in three years. A great ball controller, Desmond was team’s second-leading scorer with 15 goals and 10 assists. She is favoring Pepperdine.

Coach of the Year
Santa Margarita
He’s fortunate to always have some of the county’s top talent, but this season he took a team not expected to be in the running and led it to a league championship and a second consecutive section title.

Trisha Forni / Goalkeeper
Marina, Sr.
The Sunset League’s defensive co-MVP, she had 13 shutouts. A penchant for the spectacular save.

Carrie Hawkins / Defender
Los Alamitos, Sr.
The strongest component of the Griffins’ defense, which gave up only eight Sunset League goals.

Amy Maloney / Defender
Esperanza, Sr.
The strongest and most talented defender on an Aztec team that rallied to finish third in the Sunset League.

Ashley Clift / Midfielder
El Modena, So.
El Modena’s offense ran through Clift, who scored 18 goals and had 13 assists.

Sarah Higham / Midfielder
Mission Viejo, Sr.
A second-team All-Southern Section selection. She was the backbone of Diablos’ midfield.

Jenny Anderson / Forward
Santa Margarita, Fr.
Sure to be a star for the Eagles in the future, she is a speedster with good ball control.

Alison Fennell / Forward
Mater Dei, Jr.
Lightning quick, she led her team with 24 goals and 11 assists, including five goals in the playoffs.

Lindsay Greco / Forward
Capistrano Valley, So.
Along with teammate Chandra King, the leading scorer for the Cougars with 15 goals.

Stephanie Freeman / Forward
Esperanza, Fr.
With her out of the lineup, Aztecs lost first four Sunset League games. She returned and led team with 11 goals and 11 assists.

Heidi Prestegard / Forward
Edison, Sr.
A two-time All-Sunset League selection, she was a motivational force as well as an offensive threat.

Laura Riegler / Forward
Marina, So.
Scored six of Marina’s 10 Sunset League goals. Finished with 13 goals and 11 assists for the season.
