The city has been selected as a 1997-98 California Parks and Recreation Society Award of Excellence winner for a planning document that will guide city development for the next 20 years.
In 1996, the city formed a community-based committee to update the Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Human Services Master Plan.
The committee listed facilities, sought input from residents, business and civic organizations, held informational workshops, distributed questionnaires and conducted a random citywide telephone poll.
The document was adopted by the City Council in 1997.
