Transit Zones

The Times is correct that a regional approach to many issues is long overdue (March 19). Sadly, current politics seems to be moving in the opposite direction, toward being yet more parochial and shortsighted. An example is the current mania to break up MTA into multiple zones. Proponents ignore the consequences it would have. Historically, coordination between transit operators has been poor. Zones would exacerbate the difficulty transit-dependent persons already have commuting long distances.
It is hoped that this mania can be forestalled before damage is done to our fragile public transit network.
