Silk Flower, English Courses Offered

The Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute is offering six-week classes in English and in silk-flower design.

In the flower class, students will learn to make centerpieces, topiaries, wreaths and decorative hats, in addition to learning how to dry flowers. The class will meet on consecutive Thursdays beginning this week from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. or from 6 to 9 p.m. It costs $35 plus materials.

Also, adults with limited English skills can take a free “family literacy” class every Monday and Wednesday from 12:45 to 2:10 p.m. at Berylwood Elementary School. Parents will be taught to read children’s literature so they can go home and share these stories with their families.

The adult school, at 3192 Los Angeles Ave., was recently awarded five commendations from the state Department of Education. For more information, call the school at 579-6200.
