Help Sought in Identifying Dead Baby

Sheriff’s officials are looking for help in identifying an infant found Sunday floating in the waters of the California Aqueduct near Palmdale, authorities said.
The baby girl, estimated to be a month old, was found about 11 a.m. by a man fishing in the aqueduct, authorities said. The body appeared to have been in the water for several days.
The infant was discovered near a pumping station in a section of the aqueduct accessible from a dirt road off Sierra Highway.
The coroner’s office has labeled the baby a “Jane Doe” and will join the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department in investigating the death, said Lt. Fred Corral of the coroner’s office. An autopsy was performed Monday, but results were unavailable.
Officials are checking with other law enforcement agencies into any reports of missing children or abductions, Corral said.
Anyone with information about the infant is urged to call sheriff’s homicide detectives at (213) 890-5500.
