Moorpark Salutes Employees of the Year

Senior Center Coordinator Carol Ghens and custodian Anthony Sylvers received formal recognition by the Moorpark City Council as recipients of the 1997 city employees of the year award.
The award given by the city and Kiwanis Club is for two employees who have demonstrated exemplary customer service.
Ghens and Sylvers were among 21 city employees nominated by the public and city staff.
“Carol, through hard work, dedication and enthusiasm, has provided the seniors of Moorpark a center that is superior to others. . . . Without Carol the center would not be the success it is,” one nomination paper said. Of Sylvers, one person wrote, “Anthony always gets the job done and done right. He constantly goes out of his way to assist customers and his fellow staff members.”
Planned Parenthood Honors Volunteer * Ingrid Elsel of Ventura was honored as 1997 Ventura County Volunteer of the Year by Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties. Elsel began volunteering at Planned Parenthood in 1985, and chairs the Development Committee, which is responsible for fund-raising.
College Art Contest Winners Announced * Buenaventura Gallery announced the winners of its annual student Intercollegiate Juried Competition. The competition attracted entrants from Cal Lutheran University, Moorpark College, Oxnard College and Ventura College.
The winners by category:
Two-dimensional--first, Diane Vogel (Moorpark College); second, David Starfas (Ventura College); third, Judy Conaway (Ventura College).
Three-dimensional--first, Eunsil Kim (Ventura College); second, Christine Beirne (Ventura College); third, Christie Couch (Moorpark College); and fourth, Arline Tepper (Ventura College).
Trial Lawyers Install Officers, Directors * The Ventura County Trial Lawyers Assn. installed its 1998 officers and board of directors. They are:
President, Barbara Landan; vice president and president elect, Paul Blatz; secretary-treasurer, Mark Borrell.
Board of directors: Barbara DeMeo, Mark Hancock, J. Grant Kennedy, Edward Lacey, Edwin Loskamp, Michael Morrow, Michael Walker and Henry Walsh.
