Longtime Oxnard resident Donald Lee Warner died Saturday. He was 63.
Warner was born Feb. 21, 1935, in New Bremen, Ohio. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a fire control technician for 20 years before retiring as a master chief in 1974. He served in the Vietnam War.
Warner and his wife of 43 years, Ruth, moved to the Port Hueneme-Oxnard area in 1971 when he was transferred from El Toro. Ruth Warner said the family moved more than 20 times during her husband’s military career.
Warner also worked as a shoe repairman on the base, prompting him to buy Ace Shoe Sales and Service in Oxnard in 1978. The business remains family-owned.
Warner also enjoyed taking trips with Ruth on the couple’s touring motorcycle. He liked fishing and rodeos.
Warner was a member of the Oxnard Elks Lodge, American Legion and Oxnard Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife, Warner is survived by two daughters, Debra Ann Jackson of Reno, Nev., and Wanda Jean Hudson of Moorpark; his mother, Marguerite Warner of New Bremen; a sister, Joann Schwarck of New Knoxville, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
No services were planned. Arrangements were handled by James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
