The San Fernando Valley gets a little March Madness of its own this weekend with a three-on-three tournament at Cal State Northridge.
More than 2,500 players are expected to participate in Hoop-It-Up, an annual NBA-sanctioned event. Teams will play in age and skill divisions ranging from Couch Potato to Top Gun.
Games will take place on dozens of temporary half-courts set up on campus parking lots. Teams in the Top Gun division will play to advance to regional competition.
The tournament, which features shooting and dunking contests, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Spectator admission is free.
* Future of America Baseball Camps will hold tryouts for the Ventura-based Coastal Rockies’ 13-and-under travel baseball club team at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ventura High.
Prospective players should turn 14 no earlier than July 31. Information: Terry Grant, (805) 649-1449.
