Two Harbor Blvd. Corners Getting Left-Turn Signals

The wait to make left-hand turns onto Commonwealth and Chapman Avenues off Harbor Boulevard soon will be shorter when the city installs left-turn signals at both intersections.
The City Council this week approved the $50,000 signals, to be paid with Measure M funds. Officials said drivers often are stuck in the middle of the intersection waiting for the heavy Harbor traffic to let up. From July 1994 to June 1997, there were five recorded accidents at the Chapman intersection and four accidents at the Commonwealth intersection.
In other official action, the council awarded an engineering contract to J.C. Chang and Associates of Torrance. The firm will be paid $72,508 to design and draft plans for a new security lighting system for the Fullerton Municipal Airport.
